Definition

Sirat is an Islamic term for path or straight path: al-Sirat al-Mustaqim names the right path toward God, while later eschatological usage also speaks of As-Sirat as a bridge crossed on the Day of Judgment.

Background

The term therefore carries both an ethical-theological sense of guidance and a symbolic eschatological image, making context important.

Position

It is a niche term for Qur’anic interpretation, Islamic eschatology, religious symbolism, and cultural or cinematic representation.

Distinctions

  • The straight path of al-Sirat al-Mustaqim and the bridge image of As-Sirat are related but should not be collapsed without context.
  • When used in film or cultural analysis, the theological term and artistic metaphor should be separated.
